WHY PSYCHEDELIC MEDICINE?

Psychedelic Medicine, also known as Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, is a “novel” treatment approach used in treating and managing mental illness conditions. This therapy approach involves integrating psychedelic drugs with psychotherapy to effect optimum patient treatment and recovery results. It is worth mentioning that psychedelic drugs have been around for a while, and several studies have been conducted on the possibility of their inclusion in mental illness treatment.

KETAMINE TREATMENTS

There is a nucleus in the brain called the lateral habenula ,also referred to as the “anti-reward center”. It’s called this because after a certain amount trauma or ongoing is appointments, the lateral habenula will go into “bust mode” – which eventually shuts down our Dopamine production, leaving us feeling tired, unmotivated, and unable to find joy in activities or life. Ketamine blocks this “bust mode” and turns the Dopamine production back on nearly immediately. When burst firing stops, we begin to feel relief, joy, and attitude.

ADD/ADHD

A person with ADHD has difficulty focusing for long periods of time. This limited capacity affects every aspect of their lives, such as school, employment, and relationships. They perform poorly, and this brings about low self-esteem and feeling less than those around them. ADHD presents differently for each person, and the symptoms may evolve with age as the person learns to self-adapt.

SPRAVATO

In addition to traditional ketamine treatments given by injection, orally, or infusion, there’s a different form of ketamine called esketamine (brand name Spravato) which may be inhaled nasally.

Esketamine is intended for administration by the patient under the direct supervision of a healthcare professional. This form of ketamine has been approved by the FDA in the US specifically for use with treatment resistant depression. Spravato is typically prescribed in conjunction with other anti-depressants.

WHAT ARE PSYCHEDELICS

There’s a high chance you’ve come across the term “psychedelic” before, and you’ve probably been wondering what exactly this term means. Psychedelic drugs, also known as psychedelics or hallucinogens, are a class of substances observed to have psychoactive effects. This means that they are capable of inducing changes in sensory perception, awareness, and emotions of individuals when ingested.
